O God, who constantly raise up in your Church new examples of virtue, grant that we may follow so closely in the footsteps of the Bishop Saint Alphonsus in his zeal for souls as to attain the same rewards that are his in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
St. Alphonsus de Liguori was a great preacher of the Gospel to the poor. His charity and apostolic spirit led him to found the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer to carry on this work. He sent his Redemptorists, as our Lord did the Apostles, into the countryside and the market towns and villages, to announce the Kingdom of God.

About  St Alphonsus de Liguori (Bishop and Doctor of the Church)

(September 27, 1696 ? August 1, 1787)
He was an Italian Catholic bishop, a spiritual writer, Scholastic philosopher and a theologian.
He founded the Redemptorists; an influential religious congregation.
He was canonized in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI.
Pope Pius IX proclaimed him a Doctor of the Church in 1871.

Alphonsus is best known for his moral theology, but he also wrote well in the field of spiritual and dogmatic theology. His Glories of Mary is one of the great works on that subject, and his book Visits to the Blessed Sacrament went through 40 editions in his lifetime, greatly influencing the practice of this devotion in the Church.

Wishing all subscribers here on Proudly Catholic a wonderful month of August. May God bless you all.
