Is it proper to chew Holy Communion?

Sharing is caring!

What do you think 🤔 in respect to today’s topic? Is it proper to chew Holy Communion?

Well, my answer begins with a story with me.

In 2013, I was a Catecumen. Then, I was still in school, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, I attended St. Augustine Catholic Chaplency. And our Chaplain was Rev. Fr. Anthony Erin-ola.

Before we received the Sacrament of Baptism and First Holy Communion, our Chaplain gave us this Catechism instructions on how to receive Holy Communion.

He came to catechism class with some host (Holy Communion not yet blessed). He said, when you want to receive Holy Communion, first stretch out your tongue, after you have responded to the Priest when he says “Body and Blood of Christ “. Stretch out your tongue and receive the Holy Communion in your tongue. Don’t chew the Holy Communion or allow it to touch your teeth. Soak the Holy Communion with your saliva before you swallow.

But the Priest chew it right? Yes, because of the size of the Communion. They are also aware of not allowing some of the particles to be wasted, so, they take extra caution, unlike laypeople.

Remember the feeding of the 5,000 (matthew 14 13 21). Jesus Christ said to his apostles, gather every piece so that nothing is left.

When you Chew Holy Communion, some of the piece may still remain in your teeth, just like other food particles. When you spit, you may spit out some particles left in your mouth 👄, which off course is very wrong. Don’t you wonder why a Priest takes his time to clean the altar and all the items used in the celebration of the Eucharist, picking the particles of the Eucharist piece by piece?

Some persons will attend morning Mass without brushing their teeth, getting to Mass they will received Holy Communion and then go home to brush their teeth. Please it is wrong, stop it from today. The Eucharist is the true body and blood of Jesus Christ together with his soul and divinity understand the appearances of bread 🍞 and wine 🍷.

Summary of today’s article.

  • Don’t chew the Holy Eucharist/Communion
  • I’m not saying it is a sin to do so.
  • Soak it with your saliva before you swallow.
  • Brush your teeth before you attend morning Mass. ☺
  • Always make sure you consume everything in your mouth, please.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and for ever. Amen.

Please take today’s lesson serious, let it engrave in your heart ♥. And don’t forget to share with others, this lesson.
