8 prayers for this Christmas Holiday.

1: A prayer for the gift of wisdom

Great is the wisdom of the Lord!

God Almighty, Your Wisdom includes

An understanding of what is fair,

What is logical, what is true,

What is right and what is lasting.

It mirrors Your pure intellect!

I entreat You to grant me such Wisdom,

That my labours may reflect Your insight.

Your Wisdom expands in Your creations,

Displaying complexity and multiplicity.

Your Wisdom is an eternity ahead of man.

May Your wisdom flourish forever!

2: Thanksgiving day Prayer

Father, all of Creation rightly owes you thanks and praise.

Your justice, love and mercy abound.

We thank you this day for all that you have given us:

For the Passion and Death of your Divine Son,

we thank you Father,

through the Cross, He redeemed the world.

For the Church,

we thank you Father,

it is our beacon for salvation.

For the martyrs and saints who give testimony to your Son,

we thank you Father,

their witness to your Son is our inheritance.

For our loved ones and friends who have died and gone before us,

we thank you Father,

their love abides with us forever.

For loving spouses,

we thank you Father,

together we seek you.

For the gift of children,

we thank you Father,

they are your precious gifts to us and to the world.

For the gift of our families,

loved ones and good friends,

we thank you Father,

Through them we see the reflection of your Son.

For jobs, our homes and all that we have,

we thank you Father,

give us only that which we need, as we seek Your Kingdom.

For the bounty we are about to eat,

we thank you through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

3: An Act of Thanksgiving for the blessings of last year.

O God, the beginning and the end of all things, Who art always the same, and Whose years fail not, we now, at the close of another year, kneel in adoration before Thee, and offer Thee our deepest thanks for the fatherly care with which Thou has watched over us during the past, for the many times Thou hast protected us from evils of soul and body, and for the numberless blessings, both temporal and spiritual, which Thou hast showered upon us. May it please Thee to accept the homage of our grateful hearts which we offer Thee in union with the infinite thanksgiving of Thy divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Amen.

4: Prayer for blessing on new year

O sacred and adorable Trinity, hear our prayers on behalf of our holy Father the Pope, our Bishops, our clergy, and for all that are in authority over us. Bless, we beseech Thee, during the coming year, the whole Catholic Church; convert heretics and unbelievers; soften the hearts of sinners so that they may return to Thy friendship; give prosperity to our country and peace among the nations of the world; pour down Thy blessings upon our friends, relatives, and acquaintances, and upon our enemies, if we have any; assist the poor and the sick; have pity on the souls of those whom this year has taken from us; and do Thou be merciful to those who during the coming year will be summoned before Thy judgment seat. May all our actions be preceded by Thy inspirations and carried on by Thy assistance, so that all our prayers and works, having been begun in Thee, may likewise be ended through Thee. Amen.

5: Thanksgiving day Prayer 2

Father all-powerful, your gifts of love are countless and your goodness infinite. On Thanksgiving Day we come before you with gratitude for your kindness: open our hearts to concern for our fellow men and women, so that we may share your gifts in loving service.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

6: Thanksgiving day Prayer 3

O God, of Whose mercies there is no number,

and of Whose goodness the treasure is infinite;

we render thanks to Your most gracious majesty

for the gifts You have bestowed upon us,

evermore beseeching Your clemency,

that as You grant the petitions of them that ask You,

You will never forsake them,

but will prepare for the reward to come.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

7: Thanksgiving day Prayer 4

Father in Heaven,

Creator of all

and source of all goodness and love,

please look kindly upon us

and receive our heartfelt gratitude

in this time of giving thanks.

Thank you for all the graces and blessings

You have bestowed upon us,

spiritual and temporal:

our faith and religious heritage,

our food and shelter,

our health,

the loves we have for one another,

our family and friends.

Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity,

please grant us continued graces

and blessing throughout the coming year.

This we ask in the Name of Jesus,

Your Son and our Brother.

Amen.

8: The seven thanksgiving prayer for the seven shedding of Our Lord’s Blood (Against the seven capital sins)

O most humble Lord and Master, Jesus Christ,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because in Thy tenderest age,

on the eighth day of Thy mortal life,

Thou didst vouchsafe to shed Thy precious

and innocent blood for us,

and as a true Son of Abraham

to bear the pain of circumcision.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I beg of Thee the grace of humility against all pride and worldly vanity.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

II.

O thou whose love is like the pelican’s for her young, Jesus Christ,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because in the Garden,

out of exceeding anguish of Thy Heart,

Thou didst pour forth a bloody sweat, and,

wholly resigning Thyself to death,

didst offer it to Thy Father.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I ask of Thee the grace of liberality against all covetousness and avarice.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

III.

O most chase Spouse, Jesus Christ,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because Thou didst suffer Thyself

to be mercilessly bound in Pilate’s judgement hall,

and Thy private part flesh to be cruelly scourged and mangled.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I implore of Thee the grace of chastity

against all sensuality and lust.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

IV.

O most meek Lamb, Jesus Christ,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because Thou didst suffer Thy sacred Head to be crowned with piercing thorns

and struck hard with a reed.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I pray Thee for the grace of meekness

against all anger and desire for revenge.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

V.

O most sweet Jesus Christ,

Pattern of temperance and self-denial,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because Thou didst allow Thy garments to be torn

from Thy bleeding body both before and after the carrying of Thy Cross,

which opened Thy wounds again,

and caused them to bleed afresh.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I beseech of Thee the grace of temperance and abstinence

against all greediness and gluttony.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

VI.

O good and faithful Samaritan, Jesus Christ,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because out of Thy burning love for us Thou didst suffer Thy sacred Hands and Feet

to be pierced and nailed to the Cross for our redemption.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I beg of Thee the grace of brotherly love against all envy and jealousy.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.

VII.

O most zealous High-Priest,

true God and true Man,

eternal praise and thanksgiving be to Thee,

because Thou didst suffer Thy sacred side to be pierced,

opened, and wounded with a spear.

By this most holy shedding of Thy Blood,

I earnestly pray Thee for the grace of holy zeal

and fervour against all sloth and weariness in Thy service,

and in every religious exercise.

Our Father…

O Saviour of the world,

who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us:

save us, and help us,

we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord.
